"Do the human species have to survive?"

Yes. Because life as such does not have to be questioned.

All life, from the one-cell organism to humans, "wants" to continue existing, and therefore protects itself and precreates. Or else there would be no (more) life at all.

Each living creature lives for its own purpose, but also dependent on the others of its kind and upon the other species.

Each species has its own, non-specified, "function" within the totality of the web of life.
