Growth argument: "ecofascism"   (D E F)
"Your ideas are ecofascist."

Proposals to reduce humanity's impact on the environment always carry a political component because decisions must be taken. This is a democratic process.

Labeling proposals "ecofascist" does not demonstrate a mature understanding of democracy, where decisions are being taken after a democratic discussion and then hopefully in the interest of the wider population and not serving some elitist groups.

Labeling occurs for a variety of reasons. The effect is often a denigration of the opponent, possibly for lack of factual arguments.

"Fascism, is a political ideology that seeks to combine radical and authoritarian nationalism with a corporatist economic system, and which is usually considered to be on the far right of the traditional left-right political spectrum.

Fascists advocate the creation of a single-party state, with the belief that the majority is unsuited to govern itself through democracy and by reaffirming the benefits of inequality. Fascist governments forbid and suppress openness and opposition to the fascist state and the fascist movement." (source: wikipedia 10 Dec 2009 http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fascism)
