IFES - International Flat Earth Society
|
All "letters to the editor" printed in Der Spiegel are equivocal in their criticism and rejection of the psychiatrisation of human behaviours. We think this critique is entirely justified. An extremely important and wide-spread disorder should however be included in all teaching and treatment manuals: The "Economic Growth Lunacy" (EGL) or "Perpetual Economic Growth Cognitive Disorder" (PEG Cognitive Disorder ) (in German: Wirtschafts-Wachstums-Wahn (WWW).
It is the mental disorder which believes the earth would be flat, its resources endless, and the economy and human population could grow endlessly.
People afflicted by the PEG Cognitive Disorder generally believe that Hope, Optimism and Technology (HOT) will in future solve all environmental problems. Scientific evidence to the contrary is generally rejected, using circular pseudo-arguments in defence of the status quo.
The PEG-HOT Syndrom predominently afflicts the members of the ruling classes of our worldwide society. Logic-therapeutic treatment has so far shown virtually no healing results, possibly because admission of the hard facts would be too large a shock for the cristalline thought patterns of the persons afflicted by the Economic Growth Lunacy. Biologists suggest a logic-resistent PEG brain virus could play a role. We would rather suppose that more than a century of ideologically biased teaching of economics has led to the prevalence of this PEG Cognitive Disorder at schools and at universities. In many cases this leads to an irreversible destruction of the intellectual competences of students. (ecoglobe, 8 February 2013) Letter to the American Psychiatric Association (APA) on the inclusion of the PEG Belief Disorder in the forthcoming fifth edition of the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM-V)
