"Sustainable growth"?

Economic growth is part and parcel of many speeches and programmes. However, on a planet with a fixed size, a political programme of economic growth is a questionnable goal at least: Many environmental problems are becoming ever larger because of economic growth.
A discussion on economic growth - we believe - is therefore a predominant task. In this sense we wrote to then president of the Swiss Confederation. Mr. Joseph Deiss did not fail to mention economic growth as an important societal goal in his New Year's speech of 2004.
