    "Sustainability":

    The balances are maintained if a resource is not consumed at a higher rate than needed for regeneration.

    Many resources are non-renewable. So here we must judge very carefully with which speed we may reasonably use these.

  • ecoglobe basics:

  • The earth is a globe; its natural resources and space are finite.
  • Humanity's environmental footprint is too high; beyond the earth's carrying capacity.
  • Economic growth and population growth are increasing our pressure upon nature.
  • Growth increases the speed of resource depletion and pollution.
  • Climate change is a result of human activity; growth will increase the problem.
  • Technology or creativity cannot undo environmental depletion and revive lost species.
  • Solutions must build upon available knowledge; we can't depend on future "solutions".
  • The horizon of absolute resource scarcities is much nearer than most people realise.

    ecoglobe suggestions:

    club... Reverse economic growth and population growth;
          this is the most vital policy decision that must be taken.
    Change the societal incentives and rules in such a way
          that economic growth is no longer rewarding.
    Dramatically reduce resource depletion by, for example:

    reducing transportation by re-localistion, speed reduction,

    increasing longevity and quality of products, de-mechanisation.
    Support development in geographical areas that lack basic standards of living.
          Such development must be compensated by equivalent reduction of luxuries in
          the overdeveloped areas.

    ecoglobe future:
    • A realistic hope that our children will inherit sufficient resources for a decent life.
    • Full employment, less stress, better health, more life.
